This free form porcelain vase has inlays of navy, gray and lavender feathered into a base of white porcelain. I love the organic feel of the curves, but that is not how this vase began its life! In the beginning, it was a large, flat slab into which I inlaid the colored porcelain. The curves were partly determined by the shape of the clay slab. They were then refined and defined by hand. This process takes days as the clay must be quite moist in order to inlay the colored porcelain, but it must be dryer in order to hold the desired form. So, as the clay dried, I manipulated the curves, giving them greater volume, making sure they flow without a break in the line I desire. The interior of this piece is glazed in lavender, the outside is unglazed.
This vase is approximately 9" at the tallest point, 13" deep and 14" wide.
