This sculptural porcelain vase has inlays of black, gray, and navy feathered into a base of white porcelain. The flow of the curves gives this piece a very organic feel. This vessel begins as a large, flat slab into which I inlay the colored porcelain. The curves are partly determined by the shape of the clay slab. These curves are then refined and defined by hand. This process takes days as the clay must be quite moist in order to inlay the colored porcelain, but it must be dryer in order to hold the desired form. So, as the clay dries, I manipulate the curves, giving them greater volume, making sure they flow without a break in the line I desire. The interior of this piece is glazed in charcoal gray, the outside is unglazed.
This vessel is approximately 9.5" high, 12" wide, and 13" deep.
