I call this jar "Tribal Geometrics." The design was created with 1/8" tape that acts as a resist when applying the glaze. When the tape is removed, voila! The design is revealed. I love how the taped designs reveal the true color of the clay. Making these designs is a wonderful process. What type of design would look best on the shape of my pot? Something more geometric and architectural? or perhaps something more organic? What color glaze will best highlight the color of the clay? Sometimes the pot sits on my counter for weeks while I contemplate design options. Here, I especially love how the copper finial replicates the shape of lines in the taped design and picks up on the gorgeous color of the red clay. This piece won second prize in sculpture at the 2019 Gaelen Gallery juried show.
