
The purple flowers on this plate were painted using a transfer method. The flowers were painted on a piece of newspaper with underglaze and allowed to dry. I then placed the dry paper onto the clay and, using a spray bottle, Iwet the back of the drawing. A roller encouraged the underglaze to transfer to the clay surface. Since the painted surface is not the exact same depth in every place, the underglaze transfers unevenly, leaving a beautiful antiqued or distressed look in the transferred image.
